|Alice Nelson, Opera/Vocal Coach
Alice Nelson began accompanying singers while still in high school, and continued as an undergraduate at Mississippi University for Women. She was staff accompanist at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock from 1973-1983, during which time she completed a master’s degree at the University of Memphis. From 1984-1991 she was vocal coach and accompanist at the St. Louis Conservatory of Music; and is now in her 25nd year as Director of Opera at Webster University. For many years she has been a vocal coach and accompanist in Opera Theatre of St.Louis’ nationally recognized Artists-in-Training Program; and has prepared children’s choruses for OTSL’s mainstage productions of Carmen, Tosca, La Bohême, Gloriana, Street Scene, Alice in Wonderland, and Pagliacci. She has attended the Wesley Balk Opera and Musical Theater workshop in Minneapolis, and has studied improvisation at The Improv Trick in St. Louis. She also maintains a schedule of private vocal coaching and accompanying, and has prepared singers for recitals, orchestral concerts, opera performances, and auditions throughout the United States and Europe..
